چکیده

Recently, there has been renewed interest about incomplete security markets. Hart (1975) provided an example of nonexistence of competitive equilibria for incomplete real securities, which are claims to commodity bundles. Given this finding, Duffie and Shafer (1985, 1986a, b) prove generic existence of competitive equilibria of incomplete real security markets. Husseini et al. (1990) Geanakoplos and Shafer (1990), and Hirsch et al. (1990) show the classical Brouwer or Kakutani fixed point theorems do not s&ice for proving existence of competitive equilibria in the presence of incomplete real security markets. They offer new types of general fixed point

General Equilibrium with Endogenously Incomplete Financial Markets

The present paper studies a class of general equilibrium economies with imperfectly competitive financial intermediaries and price-taking consumers. Intermediaries optimally choose the securities they issue and the bid-ask spread they charge. Financial intermediation is costly, and hence markets are endogenously incomplete. An appropriate equilibrium concept is developed, and existence is prove...

Incomplete Markets

In reality, markets are incomplete, meaning that some payoffs cannot be replicated by trading in marketed securities. The classic no-arbitrage theory of valuation in a complete market, based on the unique price of a self-financing replicating portfolio, is not adequate for nonreplicable payoffs in incomplete markets. We focus on pricing over-the-counter derivative securities, surveying many pro...

An Introduction to General Equilibrium with Incomplete Asset Markets*

The theory of general equilibrium with incomplete asset markets (GEI) studies the pricing of securities and commodities, and the interactions of perfectly competitive asset markets and commodity markets in determining consumption and investment. Since financial economics is fundamentally concerned with the pricing of securities, and since macroeconomics is fundamentally concerned with the real ...

Impact of Participants’ Market Power and Transmission Constraints on GenCos’ Nash Equilibrium Point

Unlike perfect competitive markets, in oligopoly electricity markets due to strategic producers and transmission constraints GenCos may increase their own profit through strategic biddings. This paper investigates the problem of developing optimal bidding strategies of GenCos considering participants’ market power and transmission constraints. The problem is modeled as a bi-level optimizati...

EQUILIBRIUM IN INCOMPLETE MARKETS: I A Basic Model of Generic Existence

This paper demonstrates the generic existence of general equilibria in incomplete markets. Our economy is a model of two periods, with uncertainty over the state of nature to be revealed in the second period. Securities are claims to commodity bundles in the second period that are contingent on the state of nature, and are insufficient in number to span all state contingent claims to value, reg...
